ATTENTION PCC MEMBERS AND MAILERS:
BLOG YOUR COMMENTS NOW!
We are asking that you reveiw the new proposed standards issued by the United States Postal Service. Once you review them please outline how this will impact your organization. Please include your company name in your comments. We plan to submit all comments by January 26th, 2009. Please help us to convince the USPS that these changes will impact most of their clients in a negative manner by ultimately forcing higher prices for production.
The highlights are:
* A requirement in many cases of 3 tabs to a self-mailer
* No longer allowing tabs on the top (open) side of the mail piece, instead they must be placed on each side
* Increasing the size of the tab to 1.5" and recommending 2" tabs be used
* Not allowing perforation in tabs
* Reducing the size of the mail piece to 6" x 10.5 (instead of 6.125 x 11.5) to maintain letter size rates * Reducing the weight to 3 oz

Since I am not a registered member of the blog clearing houses noted in the PCC blog page. I answer in this manner.
ReplyDeleteI see both vendors, competitors, customer's and well respected USPS employee's in the addresses below.
My comments may seem terse, but it is not often that one as the honor of watching one's market maker kill itself. All of us who invested our time, energy and money, should be concerned with the USPS' lack of respect for their customer and trade partners.
I look forward to the outcome of this change and those changes to comes, even on short notice.

In regards to adding more mandatory changes from the post office, which result in additional costs for all mailng customers...
ReplyDeleteIn the news they are already talking about cut-backs and lost of revenue in the USPS... due to the fact that more people are using the web to advertise,and not mailing their products. This is only going to result in loss of yet more mail being sent thru USPS. With the economy being in the condition it is today...you'd think they'd realize that increasing costs for the customers is not a asset. I feel this would result in alot of the smaller companies going out of business, because the inability to purcahse the extra equipment to process tabbing jobs in this manner.
Direct Mail has to provide a competitive or better ROI than other methods like the web, email, television, newspapers, etc. Anything that raises costs should be carefully considered by the USPS before being implemented.
ReplyDeleteI am curious if the increased cost have been calculated for the mailer? Without available technology to meet the proposed standards (with exception to multiple passes), I am not sure they could. Greg Polk - Peak Business Equipment
